In Myrtle Beach there are more than 120 courses to choose from, each with its own personality. Arrowhead Country Club combines the artistry of course designers Ray Floyd and Tom Jackson to create a scenic masterpiece. Combine a mix of elevation changes, hardwood wetlands and manicured greens and you have a course you'll definitely want to play. Gary Player has created an undulating design with gorgeous natural terrain called Blackmoor Golf Club. It challenges any golfer but it's a favorite among high handicappers. Finely manicured fairways snake through towering pines and large wetlands at the Tournament Players Club. This Tom Fazio-designed course is tour caliber and plays host to the Senior Tour Championship.
In addition to theme parks, Orlando has its fair share of great golf courses. Celebration Golf Club is an upscale course designed by the father and son team of Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Sr. The layout, protectively framed by borders of native trees and strategically placed hazards, demands accurate approach shots and great putting. Greg Norman designed two courses for ChampionsGate Golf Club, one an “Australian Links” and the other a classic American-style course. The ChampionsGate International course is filled with sweeping fairways and ornery pot bunkers, and the National course is cut through 200 acres of woodlands and wetlands.
In Las Vegas you can find a variety of courses, some budget, some midrange and some first class. Bali Hai Golf Club is a 7,002-yard Schmidt/Curley design that will make you feel like you're in a tropical paradise with a view of the Las Vegas Strip. Cascata, Italian for waterfall, is appropriately named for a 400-foot waterfall that flows from the mountainside. Sports Illustrated called Cascata “golf's hidden treasure.”
San Antonio is fast becoming a great golf getaway. The Bandit is a championship golf course that comes with rave reviews. With plenty of water and bunkers, this course is both difficult and scenic. Canyon Springs Golf Course is one you won't want to miss. It has been nominated by Golf Digest as a best new course, and the spectacular waterfall on the 18th hole makes it unique.
