Check out one of the area missions, including Mission San Diego de Alcala, the first Franciscan mission in California, set overlooking the city's historic Old Town. This historic site was the first church in California and is known as the birthplace of Christianity out West. The mission was founded in 1769 and is still home to an active church, along with a cultural center open to people of all faiths.

With countless beaches to choose from and 70 miles of coastline, San Diego is the perfect destination for those who want to explore California's Pacific coast. Whether you want to surf, play sand volleyball, go for a run or just splash in the sea, there's a beach perfect for you nearby.
